Job Purpose
The Vice President, Transformation Services - Coding & CDI is responsible for leading client-facing coding and Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) transformation initiatives across multiple healthcare organizations. Serving as the executive transformation lead and strategic advisor to Coding Leadership, CDI Leadership, operational stakeholders, and executive teams, this role partners closely with operational leaders to assess current-state performance, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop transformational solutions that enhance operational effectiveness, documentation integrity, compliance, reimbursement accuracy, and financial outcomes.
The Vice President, Transformation Services - Coding & CDI serves as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert in coding, CDI, revenue cycle, workflow optimization, technology enablement, and operational transformation. This leader collaborates with Coding and CDI Leadership to design, implement, and sustain operational improvements while ensuring alignment with client objectives, regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and organizational goals.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead coding and CDI transformation assessments, solution development, and implementation initiatives across multiple client organizations, including workflow assessments, operational redesign, future-state operating models, governance structures, and strategic roadmaps
- Partner with Coding, CDI, HIM, Revenue Cycle, Compliance, Quality, Provider, Technology, Analytics, and executive leadership to assess current-state performance, identify operational and financial opportunities, and develop strategies focused on revenue integrity, documentation improvement, compliance, quality, efficiency, and sustainability
- Serve as the primary transformation services liaison for assigned clients, building strong executive and operational relationships and facilitating alignment around transformation priorities, risks, opportunities, and expected outcomes
- Develop and deliver strategic recommendations, action plans, and best practices related to operational performance, workforce planning, technology optimization, process improvement, governance, and long-term organizational effectiveness
- Evaluate coding, CDI, analytics, workflow, automation, artificial intelligence, and digital technologies; support implementations, upgrades, conversions, and optimization initiatives to improve operational performance and integrate technology effectively into workflows
- Analyze operational, financial, quality, coding, CDI, and reimbursement data to identify trends, risks, performance gaps, and root causes; use data-driven insights to guide transformation planning, strategic prioritization, and performance improvement
- Lead cross-functional transformation teams and establish governance, communication, accountability, and performance frameworks to drive successful implementation, adoption, and achievement of defined outcomes
- Provide executive-level oversight, reporting, presentations, and recommendations throughout transformation initiatives, including measurement of project impact, outcomes, and return on investment
- Other duties as assigned
- Use, protect and disclose patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards
- Understand and comply with Information Security and HIPAA policies and procedures at all times
- Limit viewing of PHI to the absolute minimum as necessary to perform assigned duties
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, Clinical Sciences, or related field
- RN licensure preferred
- Current coding or HIM credential (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CIC, CPC, or equivalent) and current CDI credential (CCDS, CDIP, or equivalent) required
- Minimum ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience in coding, CDI, revenue cycle, consulting, or related healthcare operations
- Demonstrated success leading large-scale healthcare transformation and performance improvement initiatives
- Expertise in coding, CDI, revenue cycle operations, reimbursement methodologies, compliance, technology optimization, and process improvement
- Experience with multiple EMRs, CAC platforms, CDI software solutions, automation tools, AI technologies, and analytics platforms
- Strong executive leadership, consulting, project management, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead client-facing engagements and influence executive stakeholders across multiple healthcare organizations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate well at all levels of the organization
- Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses
- High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results oriented
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
