Position Summary
Nevakar Pharmaceuticals is seeking a part-time Head of Finance & Accounting, Vice President to serve as a senior finance leader responsible for overseeing the Company’s finance and accounting operations while partnering closely with the CEO and leadership team on financial planning, reporting, cash management, budgeting, forecasting, fundraising support, contract and agreement review, and strategic business decisions. This role is expected to average approximately 30 hours per week and will provide hands-on leadership for core finance activities, ensure timely and accurate financial information, support Board and leadership materials, and help position Nevakar for future growth as the Company advances its portfolio and long-term business objectives.
The ideal candidate will bring progressive finance and accounting leadership experience in a small or growth-oriented pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or life sciences environment and have the ability to grow with the Company over time. This individual should be comfortable operating in a hands-on environment, overseeing day-to-day finance and accounting processes, supervising and developing internal finance resources, strengthening financial controls and reporting, and providing practical financial analysis to support leadership decision-making. The Head of Finance & Accounting, VP will also support monthly operational meetings and quarterly Board meetings, guide cash flow, cash runway and project-level budgeting discussions, assist with efforts to raise capital or evaluate financing alternatives, and review and help negotiate agreements, contracts, licensing arrangements, business development opportunities, and other strategic transactions as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a senior finance partner to the CEO and leadership team, providing practical financial guidance on budgeting, forecasting, cash planning, operating plans, and key business decisions.
- Oversee the Company’s finance and accounting function, including financial reporting, month-end close coordination, accounts payable oversight, cash management, internal controls, audit support, tax coordination, treasury activities, and related governance matters.
- Support licensing, business development, financing, fundraising, and other strategic opportunities by preparing financial models, reviewing deal economics, evaluating milestone and royalty structures, assessing cash flow impact, and providing clear analysis to leadership.
- Partner with the CEO and leadership team on capital strategy, fundraising preparation, investor or lender materials, cash needs, financing scenarios, and financial communications for the Board and other key stakeholders.
- Prepare for and participate in monthly operational meetings and quarterly Board meetings by developing, reviewing, and explaining financial materials, key metrics, budgets, forecasts, cash runway updates, and other business insights.
- Review, evaluate, and help negotiate financial and business terms in agreements, contracts, licensing arrangements, vendor agreements, financing documents, and other strategic transactions in partnership with the CEO, legal counsel, and functional leaders.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, cash runway planning, project-level budget tracking, and resource allocation analysis to support disciplined decision-making across the business.
- Provide leadership, oversight, and review of day-to-day finance and accounting activities performed by the internal finance team, ensuring work is accurate, timely, well-controlled, and aligned with Company priorities.
- Strengthen finance processes, reporting tools, internal controls, documentation, and cross-functional financial discipline appropriate for a small, growing pharmaceutical company.
- Partner with cross-functional leaders in research, clinical, commercial, regulatory, manufacturing, quality, technical operations, and finance to support planning, prioritization, and financial visibility across key initiatives.
- Manage relationships with external advisors, auditors, tax providers, insurance brokers, financial institutions, consultants, and other finance-related vendors, as appropriate.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field required; MBA preferred. CPA or other relevant finance/accounting credential is a plus but not required.
- 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting leadership experience, in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, or similarly complex growth-oriented organization required.
- Prior experience as a VP Finance, Controller, Finance Director, or comparable senior finance leader with responsibility for financial reporting, accounting operations, budgeting, forecasting, and cash management.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, month-end close processes, audit support, tax coordination, treasury, budgeting, forecasting, and cash runway planning.
- Experience preparing financial materials, analysis, and key metrics for executive leadership and Board-level discussions.
- Experience supporting companies through growth, transformation, fundraising, financing, licensing, M&A, business development, contract negotiation, or other strategic initiatives preferred.
- Ability to evaluate licensing, business development, and transaction opportunities, including financial modeling, milestones, royalty structures, and deal economics.
- Demonstrated experience with cash flow forecasting, cash runway management, capital planning, fundraising support, and financial scenario analysis.
- Strong business acumen, analytical capability, sound judgment, high ethical standards, executive presence, and a practical, solutions-oriented approach.
- Hands-on leadership style with the ability to operate effectively in a small entrepreneurial company environment and provide direct oversight, coaching, and support to internal finance resources.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial information clearly to leadership, Board members, cross-functional partners, external advisors, and employees.
- Ability to quickly understand Nevakar’s technology platforms, therapeutic products, markets, project priorities, and long-term business objectives.
