The Senior Director, Cell Therapy Product Leader (CTPL) serves as the single point of accountability for product strategy across the Cell Therapy portfolio, establishing key product performance measures, setting long-range supply, network, and technology strategies, and ensuring execution across CT Operations functions. The role serves as a strategic partner to Cell Therapy Franchise, Development, Commercial, Clinical, and Global Supply Chain leaders to align strategic aspirations and deliver sustainable product and portfolio performance. Key performance measures include Capacity, Vector Supply, Manufacturing Success Rate (MSR), Cost of Goods Manufactured (COGM), Turnaround Time (TAT), Launch Excellence, and other critical performance indicators over a ten-year planning horizon.
The CTPL serves as the CTDO and Global Supply Chain representative within enterprise governance forums, including the Global Product Team (GPT) and Worldwide Brand Team (WWBT), driving alignment, influencing priorities, and ensuring coordinated management of work within CTDO and GSC. The CTPL translates Product Development & Supply (PDS) and Brand strategies into integrated supply, network, and technology strategies that meet or exceed Long-Term Financial Plan (LTFP) commitments.
The CTPL leads both commercial products and development assets that have advanced beyond proof of concept and share either a therapeutic area or common technology platform. The role chairs cross-functional GO Teams comprised of representatives from Development, MSAT, Manufacturing Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, Regulatory CMC, and Finance. Through matrix leadership, the CTPL establishes and governs the Book of Work (BOW) required to deliver product strategy, optimize portfolio outcomes, and achieve enterprise objectives.
The CTPL is accountable for shaping portfolio trade-offs, investment needs, and risk posture across the Cell Therapy network in partnership with enterprise stakeholders and GO Team leaders. The role ensures execution of approved strategies through governance, matrix leadership, and performance management while providing oversight of the technical project portfolio required to achieve yearly product performance targets. This includes development of integrated roadmaps, sponsorship of governance reviews, resolution of escalated risks, and stewardship of long-range business and financial assumptions. The CTPL also leads support of supply risk events that escalate through enterprise governance processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the Cell Therapy Development & Operations (CTDO) and Global Supply Chain representative on Global Product Teams (GPTs) and Worldwide Brand Teams (WWBTs), ensuring alignment of priorities and coordinated execution across the enterprise.
- Own the end-to-end product strategy for assigned Cell Therapy assets and commercial brands, translating PDS and Brand strategies into integrated supply, network, capacity, and technology strategies that meet or exceed Long-Term Financial Plan (LTFP) objectives.
- Chair and lead cross-functional GO Teams, establishing, prioritizing, and governing the product Book of Work (BOW) required to deliver strategic, operational, and financial objectives.
- Provide matrix leadership across Development, MSAT, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, Regulatory CMC, Finance, and Commercial organizations to drive execution of approved product strategies and ensure achievement of business objectives.
- Establish and maintain integrated multi-year product roadmaps that connect investments, technical projects, and operational initiatives to key performance indicators, including Capacity, Vector Supply, Manufacturing Success Rate (MSR), Cost of Goods Manufactured (COGM), Turnaround Time (TAT), Quality, and Launch Excellence.
- Ensure delivery of brand and portfolio performance commitments through proactive monitoring of operational performance, identification of emerging risks, and implementation of mitigation plans.
- Shape and govern portfolio trade-offs, investment priorities, resource allocation, and risk posture across the Cell Therapy network, developing aligned recommendations for enterprise decision-making and governance forums.
- Serve as the primary decision maker and escalation point for execution risks impacting the product Book of Work, ensuring timely resolution of issues and appropriate escalation through enterprise governance and tier management processes.
- Lead development and endorsement of product supply strategies, sourcing strategies, business continuity plans, lifecycle management initiatives, and technical roadmaps that support long-term growth and supply reliability.
- Maintain oversight of high impact global product launches, capacity expansion strategies, inventory strategies, and network readiness activities to ensure successful commercialization and uninterrupted patient supply.
- Drive governance and decision-making processes, including preparation and endorsement of recommendations presented through PSC, PMO, SCOPE 5, and other enterprise governance bodies.
- Establish product performance targets and planning assumptions as part of annual operating plan, budget, and long-range planning processes, ensuring alignment between financial commitments and operational capabilities.
- Maintain effective communication with senior leaders and key stakeholders through formal governance reviews, annual product reviews, strategic planning processes, and regular performance updates.
- Champion the product vision, strategy, and roadmap across internal and external stakeholders while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and patient focus.
Qualifications & Experience:
- B.S. or B.A. in science and/or engineering (biotechnology, biology, engineering or related sciences). Master or advanced degree (sciences or business) and prior cell therapy development experience preferred.
- 15+ years of progressive leadership experience across biotechnology, pharmaceutical development, manufacturing, supply chain, technical operations, product strategy, or related functions.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional product, portfolio, or business initiatives across development, commercialization, manufacturing, and supply chain organizations.
- Deep understanding of end-to-end Cell Therapy or biologics value chains, including development, technology transfer, manufacturing, supply chain, regulatory, quality, and commercialization considerations.
- Proven ability to develop and execute multi-year product, network, supply, capacity, and technology strategies aligned to business objectives and financial commitments.
- Demonstrated success influencing enterprise-level decisions and driving alignment across senior leaders within Development, Commercial, Technical Operations, Manufacturing, Finance, Quality, and Regulatory organizations.
- Strong business acumen with experience balancing patient, operational, financial, quality, and compliance considerations when making strategic decisions.
- Experience assessing portfolio trade-offs, investment priorities, capacity strategies, and risk-management decisions within a complex global organization.
- Demonstrated ability to lead through influence and matrix leadership, achieving results across organizations without direct reporting authority.
- Strong executive presence with exceptional communication, presentation, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, including experience engaging senior leadership and governance forums.
- Proven ability to lead teams through ambiguity, complexity, and organizational change while maintaining focus on strategic outcomes and execution.
- Demonstrated expertise in strategic thinking, critical decision making, problem solving, and risk management in highly regulated environments.
- Experience supporting or leading product launches, lifecycle management initiatives, network expansion, capacity planning, or global supply strategies.
- Strong financial acumen, including experience with business planning, long-range planning, budgeting, capital investment evaluations, and performance management.
- Demonstrated capability to identify opportunities, challenge conventional approaches, and drive innovative solutions that improve operational, financial, or patient outcomes.
