Position: Regional Manufacturing Manager
Primary Location: Home Based Southeastern US
Compensation: $170,000 - 175,000 + bonus + benefits. (salaried, exempt)
Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. More specific salary range for your preferred location can be discussed during the hiring process.
About This Role and You
The Regional Manufacturing Manager is responsible for the overall management of multiple plant locations across and expansive geography to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operations in adherence to all Chemtrade policies and procedures in the areas of EHS, Manufacturing, Logistics, Quality, Transportation, Engineering, and Cost control. This position includes day to day management of the facilities as well as assisting the Director of Manufacturing in the development of longer term strategic goals. He/she will also be responsible for successful execution of the capital spending plan and to drive continuous improvement in all areas of plant operations. Reporting to this position will be the respective management of the plant locations that is under the span of control.The Regional Manufacturing Manager is responsible for mentoring and guiding members of the management team and other plant employees to achieve their maximum potential in working toward common plant and business goals and objectives.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 year degree in a technical discipline. B.S. Engineering (chemical or mechanical) preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in chemical manufacturing with at least five years prior management experience. Supervisory experience in a union environment is an asset.
- MBA and multi-location management experience a plus.
- Excellent leadership and teamwork skills.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written), organizational and interpersonal skills. Strong technical writing skills.
- Committed to continuous improvement of safety, environment, customer service, operations and quality performance.
- Ability to effectively multitask and work on multiple deliverables.
- Above average fluency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Knowledge of ISO and Responsible Care a plus.
- Must possess good working knowledge of plant chemical processes, process/manufacturing safety, regulatory compliance and environmental issues.
- 50% - 90% travel required. Primary travel within region of responsibility for plant reviews and meetings. Travel for attendance in Manufacturing Department functions as required.
Responsibilities
- Overall management of the region, ensuring all plants meet safety, production, quality, environmental, and spending goals.
This includes but is not limited to the following:
Plant Operations, Quality Control
- Work with the individual plant managers and supervisors to ensure safe and efficient operation of the Polytec plants, transload facilities and private fleet operations.
- Evaluate individual plant performance and ensure adherence to corporate policies and procedures.
- Evaluates manpower requirements and monitors plant and personnel performance within his/her region
- Ensure that Plant Assessments are complete and up-to-date for each plant and that plants are capable of producing to meet business needs as required.
- Recommends, develops, and implements capital improvement projects for the plants in the region ensuring timely completion of same.
- Ensure the plants are maintained in such condition that they can be run safely, legally, and reliably. This includes ensuring effective preventive maintenance and mechanical integrity programs are in place and capital reinvestment is being done as needed.
- Assist with fleet management to optimize and maximize asset utilization.
- Coordinates with Distribution and Purchasing departments on raw material supply, and finished products to develop recommendations and implement optimal distribution strategies for raw materials and finished products.
- Work with internal Polytec/Chemtrade functions such as Accounts Payables for: Sites P-Card management, new vendors, purchase orders, vendor payments, expense reports and expenses control, etc…
- Work with Customer Service and Commercial regarding logistics and customer related issues and concerns.
- Ensure plants are adhering to ISO/NSF quality standards, performing spot checks and participating in UL ISO audits for full compliance on quality standards and follow-up on all customer complaints.
- Ensure effective training programs in place for plant operations, maintenance and supervisors.
- Knowledgeable in multiple manufacturing processes including but not limited to: Alum, PAC, ACH and LAS manufacturing, sulfuric and hydrochloric acid handling and transportation, alum and PAC blends, etc.
Environment Health and Safety / Responsible Care
- Lead by example to develop a strong health, safety and environmental awareness culture consistent with the ethic of Responsible Care. A proactive continuous improvement approach with focus on waste and emission reduction, environmental sustainability and injury prevention.
- Ensure sound health and safety procedures, practices, education and training programs are developed to ensure a safe workplace and compliance with Chemtrade EHS policies, programs and procedures.
- Ensure the plant operates in compliance that meets or exceeds, applicable environmental, regulatory and permit requirements and that regulatory reporting is completed in a timely manner.
- Ensure effective site emergency response plans are developed, implemented and tested.
- Develop and update plant operating procedures as required to ensure safe and efficient operation of the plants.
- Lead the sites to continually improve their ESH and Responsible Care related performance ensuring Safety, Health, Environmental Compliance and Security.
- Ensure timely reporting, investigation, and follow up on ESH incidents and ESH action items.
- Understands supports and confirms adherence to Process Safety Management.
- Ensure professional relationships are developed with key stakeholders in the communities the plants operate in.
Strategy Development, Reporting and Cost Control
- Develop and coordinate Plant Capital and Period Cost budgets for each plant.
- Continually monitor and review period cost spending and capex spending for all plants. Control as needed. Ensure plant spending is diligently managed to ensure annual financial cash flow and investment targets are achieved
- Prepares weekly, monthly and quarterly Manufacturing, Capital Spending and Production Reports and forecasts as required.
- Assist the in business analyses, strategic planning and the developing of operational plans that define and address critical issues for the long term success of the business and propagate best practices.
- Investigate, review, and implement possible value added activities/process improvements/ efficient use of raw materials that are beneficial to the business.
Organizational Effectiveness
- Ensures an effective organization is maintained that is able to achieve company goals and objectives for the business. (i.e. Responsible Care, Safety, Environment, Quality, Financial, etc.). Develops success plans as required.
- Regional Manager must be capable of replacing plant managers as required for vacation and sickness coverage. Able to perform tasks from hands-on operating the plant to performing plant manager admin and other duties including but not limited to; issuing purchase orders, production planning, managing inbound raw materials, coordinating product shipments with Chemtrade drivers and third party carriers, etc.
- Training, coaching and mentoring plant managers in the region as well as indirect reports.
- Develops realistic, measurable and achievable plant and staff goals. Providing timely performance feedback, regular evaluations and assistance to the management team to ensure performance measures and goals are met. Makes recommendations regarding compensation changes as required.
- Maintains cooperative labor management relations. Administering the application of the Labor Agreement and participating in contract negotiations (strategy development and bargaining).
