RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee the end-to-end freight payment process for more than $100 million in annual transportation spend, ensuring accurate, timely, and properly authorized payment of freight invoices.
- Lead freight-related month-end close activities, including spend reconciliation, accrual preparation and validation, variance analysis, and resolution of discrepancies between accrued, invoiced, and paid transportation expenses across inbound, outbound, eCommerce, fleet, and other transportation expenses.
- Monitor and manage invoicing flow through third-party freight audit service provider portals, partner with Transportation management teams to address gaps in carrier invoicing.
- Oversee relationships and day-to-day performance of the company's third-party freight audit and payment provider, including invoice processing, aging, exception resolution, payment accuracy, and service-level performance.
- Conduct month-end and quarter-end analysis for inbound shipments to ensure accurate application of Landed Cost and product margin.
- Conduct month-end analysis of Outbound Retail and eCommerce shipments to reconcile forecasted expenses with actuals.
- Own the network accruals and work with carriers to keep invoicing current.
- Analyze KPI information to improve internal and vendor performance.
- Manage relationships with third-party freight audit providers, making recommendations for process improvements that can reduce effort by Five Below and transportation partners to process invoices.
- Serve as liaison between transportation partners and third-party audit providers to ensure timely solutions are offered to address invoicing discrepancies.
- Primary point of contact for external auditors and Internal Audit team to perform validations required to meet quarterly audit tests.
- Supervise, coach, and develop freight payment team members, including establishing priorities, monitoring workload and performance, providing technical guidance, and ensuring timely completion of critical financial activities.
- Support system implementations, integrations, automation initiatives, and other projects designed to improve freight audit, payment, accrual, reconciliation, and reporting capabilities.
- Perform additional duties and projects assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Supply Chain, Logistics, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- 3+ years of demonstrated experience with freight invoice auditing, payment processing, accruals, reconciliations, and financial reporting, preferably within a high-volume retail, distribution, or transportation environment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop team members, prioritize workloads, establish accountability, and manage performance in a deadline-driven environment.
- Strong problem-solving and process-improvement capabilities, with experience identifying trends in data, resolving complex payment or billing discrepancies, and improving making recommendations for improvement.
- Strong communication skills, able to effectively summarize invoicing performance and accruals to Finance and Transportation leadership
- Indirect influencing – ability to influence cross-functional partners to drive changes that improve freight pay efficiency.
- Must be able to commute to WowTown Corporate Office or Pedricktown, NJ Ship Center at least 3 days per week.
