Design Hire is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to join a highly collaborative engineering team supporting complex building projects from initial design through construction. This role offers the opportunity to work across fire protection, life safety, and building engineering while contributing technical expertise to both new construction and renovation projects. The team values thoughtful engineering, strong coordination, and practical solutions that meet the needs of clients and project stakeholders.
Objective
Provide senior-level fire protection engineering expertise to develop safe, code-compliant solutions and guide projects through design, documentation, and implementation while balancing technical requirements, project objectives, and client needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop fire sprinkler, fire alarm, smoke control, and other fire protection systems for renovation and new construction projects.
- Perform fire code reviews, egress analysis, code analysis, and fire & smoke modeling to evaluate life safety conditions and project compliance.
- Complete fire protection hydraulic calculations using applicable hydraulic calculation software and perform field work to document existing conditions.
- Prepare construction documents, engineering reports, and technical specifications, coordinating designs with architects, engineers, contractors, and other project disciplines.
- Support construction administration, project scheduling, financial management, cost-benefit analysis, and proposal writing throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of experience with a professional A/E services firm is preferred.
- Active New York Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Fire Science is preferred.
- Experience with Contam and other tools used for fire and smoke analysis.
- Strong knowledge of applicable fire protection and life safety standards, regulations, and industry practices.
- Ability to interpret technical information, develop engineering recommendations, and communicate findings to clients and project teams.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary design efforts and supporting projects through construction.
- Strong written, verbal, organizational, and technical problem-solving skills.
