SALARY RANGE: $65,000 to $80,000 Annually

Position Summary:
Dr. Al-Hebshi’s group at the Oral Microbiome Research Laboratory at Temple University (goo.gl/Tj7so2) is seeking an outstanding Associate Scientist to conduct research on the potential interactions between bacteria and oral cancer, including their roles in carcinogenesis, anticancer activity, and immunomodulation. The appointed scientist will have the opportunity to work as part of an interdisciplinary research team and interact with a large network of national and international collaborators. Besides leading the execution of major research projects, the appointed postdoc is expected to help with the laboratory administrative tasks and mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students, and if eligible, to develop and submit own grant applications. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
PhD in a related discipline and at least 4 years of experience.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Required Skills and Abilities:
*Ability to work with animal models of oral cancer, including 4-NQO-induced and orthotopic models.
*Ability to perform basic microbiological techniques, including cultivating and maintaining oral aerobic and anaerobic bacteria and cell culture techniques.
*Experience with multiplex flow cytometry and other techniques involved in analysis of animal tissues including western blotting, immunohistochemistry; molecular techniques including PCR, qPCR, RNA sequencing, RNA interference and gene knockdown.
*Ability to work independently in driving the research project forward, from experiment-planning to data analysis.
*Must be able to work with a diverse populations of students, faculty, staff, and other external contacts.
*Must have great attention to detail and sound judgments with the ability to make independent decision.
*Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and organizational and interpersonal skills.
Essential duties:
*Designing and carrying out all required laboratory and animal experiments
*Analysis of data, and summarizing results
*Preparing progress reports
*Mentoring dental and masters students
*Writing manuscripts for publication
*Additional duties will include assisting students and routine lab maintenance
*Performs other duties as assigned
