POSITION SUMMARY
The Marketing & Proposal Director provides strategic leadership for PSA’s marketing, branding, proposal, communications, and business development support functions. This position develops the department’s annual marketing plan, aligns marketing priorities with firm growth objectives, advises leadership on market positioning, and oversees proposal and pursuit strategy. The Director is also a working leader who may participate directly in writing, editing, interview preparation, client presentations, and day-to-day marketing tasks when deadlines, staffing, or strategic pursuits require support.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership, Management, Accountability (LMA)
- Supervise, coordinate, and support marketing staff, ensuring clear expectations and operational continuity.
- Establish, document, and enforce standardized procedures aligned with marketing goals.
- Coordinate and collaborate with employees and management across the firm.
- Maintain accurate and current time sheets and submit them weekly. Weekly review of direct report timesheets.
- Attend and participate in weekly Staff Meetings, Daily Huddles.
- Demonstrate strong time management and organizational skills.
- Coordinate and provide feedback to Senior Leadership.
- Enforce adherence to companywide marketing and proposal standards and processes
- Support Principals / Partners in leading Market Sector business development efforts including new relationships
- Actively participate in strategic Quarterly and Annual planning exercises and meetings.
Marketing Strategy & Department Leadership
- Develop and maintain the annual marketing and communications strategy in alignment with firm goals, growth targets, client sectors, and market priorities.
- Establish departmental goals, KPIs, annual priorities, budgets, and staffing/resource plans.
- Provide leadership, coaching, performance feedback, and professional development for marketing staff.
- Set department standards for quality, responsiveness, brand consistency, proposal process, and client-facing communications.
- Advise executive leadership and principals on branding, market presence, marketing investments, competitive positioning, and business development opportunities.
Business Development & Pursuit Strategy
- Lead Go/No-Go discussions for major or strategic pursuits in partnership with firm leadership and project teams.
- Develop pursuit strategy, win themes, positioning, interview messaging, and differentiators for key opportunities.
- Personally lead or contribute to RFQ/RFP responses, presentations, interviews, shortlist preparation, client communications, and post-submission follow-up.
- Support principals and project managers with client development activities, networking strategy, presentation preparation, and relationship-building initiatives.
- Review win/loss data, pursuit trends, market intelligence, and client feedback to improve future pursuits.
Brand, Communications & Market Presence
- Serve as primary steward of PSA’s brand, messaging, visual identity, and external market presence.
- Approve major marketing collateral, qualifications materials, website direction, thought leadership topics, public relations opportunities, awards strategy, and firmwide communications.
- Identify market opportunities, competitive positioning themes, industry trends, sponsorships, conferences, and association involvement that advance firm goals.
- Oversee marketing campaigns, digital visibility, website strategy, content direction, social media messaging, and external communications standards.
Marketing Operations Oversight
- Oversee department workflows, proposal review cycles, content libraries, CRM reporting, pursuit tracking, vendor relationships, and process improvements.
- Partner with the Marketing Manager to balance workload, assign priorities, remove barriers, and ensure deadlines are met.
- Step into production work when necessary, including writing, editing, formatting review, presentation support, event preparation, and urgent proposal deliverables.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, Public Relations, or a related field preferred.
- 12+ years of progressive marketing, proposals, communications, or business development experience, preferably in architecture, engineering, construction, or professional services.
- 5+ years of leadership, supervisory, or department management experience preferred.
- Demonstrated experience leading strategic proposals, RFQs, RFPs, interviews, pursuit strategy, and client-facing marketing initiatives.
- Strong understanding of AEC procurement, market positioning, branding, proposal compliance, and business development support.
- Advanced writing, editing, presentation, leadership, project management, and relationship-building skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, CRM systems, marketing databases, and proposal development tools.
