Overview
The Android video expert will provide deep technical leadership for Crestron’s embedded Android and Linux video platforms as a hands-on firmware engineer leading development efforts within the team and influencing direction, roadmaps, and technical decisions. The role has ownership across video architecture, codec integration, performance optimization, debugging, and production hardening. This role requires hands-on expertise in Android multimedia, Codec2/AIDL integration, hardware video encode/decode, video HAL/vendor behavior, kernel and firmware diagnostics, camera-to-video pipelines, display interaction, and end-to-end validation for real-time conferencing, streaming, capture, playback, and encode/decode use cases. The engineer will work across firmware, BSP, camera, display, hardware, application, QA, and silicon/vendor teams to turn platform video capabilities into reliable product behavior.
Responsibilities
- Lead hands-on video platform integration, configuration, bring-up, and release readiness across Android multimedia framework, Codec2/AIDL services, video HAL/vendor components, kernel drivers, firmware interfaces, camera, display, and application-level video paths.
- Drive root-cause analysis, code-level troubleshooting, performance tuning, and production hardening for complex video issues involving hardware encode/decode, synchronization, memory management, buffer handling, latency, power efficiency, video quality, stability, and end-to-end pipeline throughput.
- Provide technical architecture direction for Android/Linux video platforms, including multimedia stack design decisions, codec integration strategy, secure and non-secure video paths, low-latency streaming, multi-instance workloads, camera-to-video flows, display interaction, and platform tradeoffs.
- Define and execute validation strategy, automation, regression coverage, stress and soak testing, codec compliance, interoperability testing, playback, recording, streaming, conferencing, and multi-session release qualification for Android and Linux video platform releases.
- Provide technical leadership to engineers through design reviews, implementation support, debugging assistance, mentoring, technical documentation, vendor engagement, risk communication, and cross-functional coordination with firmware, BSP, camera, display, hardware, application, QA, customer-facing, and silicon/vendor teams.
