The Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, development, integration, and validation of precision optical-mechanical and Camera systems for advanced technology products. This role applies expertise in mechanical design, optical design, tolerance analysis, and product development to deliver reliable, high-performance solutions that meet technical, quality, and manufacturability requirements.
Working in a collaborative, cross-functional environment, the Opto-Mechanical Engineer partners with electrical, thermal, systems, and manufacturing engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle, from concept and prototyping through production release. The successful candidate combines strong analytical and problem-solving skills with hands-on engineering experience to develop innovative opto-mechanical designs, support testing and validation activities, and drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance product performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
Responsibilities:
Design and develop opto-mechanical assemblies, including lenses, sensors, light guides, and enclosures, ensuring alignment with optical performance, mechanical integrity, thermal requirements, and manufacturability objectives. Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to support system integration, prototype development, testing, and production readiness.
Support and perform testing, prototype builds, and validation of opto-mechanical systems to verify compliance with performance, reliability, and design requirements. Develop and execute test plans, analyze results, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement design improvements throughout the product development lifecycle.
Collaborate closely with suppliers and manufacturing partners on fabrication processes, optical coatings, precision machining, and component quality to ensure compliance with design specifications and performance requirements. Drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) initiatives to improve product quality, enhance reliability, streamline production, and optimize overall cost.
Troubleshoot and resolve performance issues related to optical systems, vibration, thermal drift, and alignment by conducting root cause analysis, evaluating test data, and implementing corrective design solutions to improve system performance, stability, and reliability.
Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings, including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), to support the development, fabrication, inspection, and assembly of opto-mechanical components and systems. Participate in design reviews by presenting design concepts, evaluating technical risks, incorporating feedback, and ensuring designs meet performance, quality, manufacturability, and reliability requirements.
Conduct optical simulations and perform thermal and structural analyses to evaluate and optimize system performance, identify potential design risks, and ensure optical alignment, stability, and functionality are maintained across operating and environmental conditions.
