The Accounting Manager is a key member of Axia Women's Health's Finance and Accounting organization and serves as a trusted partner to the Controller. This position is responsible for leading the monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP. The Accounting Manager oversees the preparation and review of financial statements, manages critical accounting functions, leads a team of accounting professionals, and collaborates cross-functionally to support organizational objectives. This role plays an integral part in maintaining strong internal controls, supporting acquisition-related accounting activities, and driving continuous improvement across the accounting function.
Essential Functions:
Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting
- Direct the day-to-day administration of Axia's accounting close process and ensure all required deadlines and reporting timelines are met.
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting policies.
- Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules for senior leadership.
- Review balance sheet reconciliations, general ledger account analyses, variance analyses, and intercompany settlement activities.
- Review and analyze financial statements for care centers and departments, investigate variances, and recommend corrective accounting entries as appropriate.
- Oversee cash management activities, including liquidity monitoring and appropriate funding of company accounts.
- Collaborate with Accounts Payable, Payroll, and other shared services teams to ensure timely and accurate financial data is available for closing activities.
Technical Accounting & Compliance
- Oversee revenue recognition processes and related analyses, partnering with Revenue Cycle, IT, and operational teams to ensure accurate and complete financial reporting.
- Prepare and review complex accounting analyses related to revenue, malpractice reserves, and other critical accounting areas.
- Ensure accounting activities and financial reporting comply with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures while identifying opportunities for enhancement based on evolving business needs and accounting guidance.
- Support internal and external audit activities, including preparation of schedules, documentation, and management responses.
Acquisition & Growth Support
- Manage acquisition accounting activities for newly acquired practices, including transition of accounting processes, monitoring working capital cutoffs, and preparation of opening balance sheets.
- Support the integration of acquired practices into Axia's accounting and financial reporting environment.
- Assist with special projects, strategic initiatives, and ad hoc analyses as assigned by the Assistant Controller or Controller.
Systems, Process Improvement & Business Partnership
- Serve as a key administrator for the organization's general ledger and accounting systems, ensuring data integrity and effective system utilization.
- Identify and implement process improvements, standardization efforts, and automation opportunities to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the accounting function.
- Partner with Finance, Operations, Revenue Cycle, IT, Payroll, and other departments to support reporting needs and resolve accounting-related issues.
- Provide financial analysis and reporting support to leadership and operational stakeholders to facilitate informed business decision-making.
Skills:
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting principles.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, complex formulas, data analysis, and financial reporting.
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present financial information to various audiences.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- Experience leveraging ERP and accounting systems to support reporting, controls, and process improvements.
- High degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and professional judgment.
Experience and Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
- CPA preferred; MBA or Master's degree in Accounting or Finance is a plus.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience in public accounting, corporate accounting, or a combination thereof.
- Prior experience leading and developing accounting staff required.
- Public accounting experience preferred; Big Four experience is a plus.
- Experience within a multi-site healthcare organization preferred.
- Experience supporting acquisitions, integrations, or multi-entity accounting environments preferred.
- Experience supporting external audits and preparing audit documentation preferred.
- Strong knowledge of ERP and accounting systems required; Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) experience preferred.
- Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP and its practical application.
The estimated range is the budgeted amount for this position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications and other job-related reasons.
