ROLE OVERVIEW
Astrodyne TDI is seeking a hands-on Principal Electrical Engineer to lead the design and delivery of advanced switch-mode power supply products. As a senior subject-matter expert, you will guide projects from conception through production, resolve difficult technical issues under demanding timelines, and communicate effectively with customers, stakeholders, program teams, and manufacturing partners. This role is ideal for an experienced power electronics engineer who enjoys remaining technically engaged while providing leadership and mentorship.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
- Lead end -to-end electrical engineering projects from architecture and concept development through design, testing, compliance, manufacturing, and product release.
- Design advanced switch-mode power supplies with a focus on performance, reliability, testability, manufacturability, cost, and schedule.
- Apply deep knowledge of MOSFETs, power semiconductor components, high-frequency magnetics, analog circuitry, and power conversion topologies.
- Diagnose and resolve challenging technical problems, including root-cause analysis and EMC-related issues, within fast-paced development timelines.
- Collaborate with Program Management, R&D, manufacturing, purchasing, sales, marketing, and supply chain to deliver project objectives.
- Provide technical input into mechanical and thermal design and ensure successful system-level integration.
- Develop technical documentation, engineering estimates, bills of material, project plans, status updates, procedures, and product instructions.
- Support product quoting by providing engineering cost, resource, risk, and time-to-completion estimates.
- Partner with customers and internal stakeholders to clarify requirements, communicate tradeoffs, and guide technical decisions.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical direction that strengthens team capability and design quality.
WHAT YOU BRING - Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
- 10+ years of hands-on experience developing electronic power conversion products.
- Established success designing switch-mode power supplies and bringing designs through development and production.
- Strong technical knowledge used in switch-mode power supply design.
- Experience with high-frequency magnetic component design and debugging EMC issues.
- Ability to design advanced power products with minimal supervision and provide sound technical leadership.
- Experience designing testability, manufacturability, performance, reliability, and cost.
- Strong customer, stakeholder, and technical communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, manage competing priorities, and solve problems quickly in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to work onsite in Hackettstown, NJ.
PREFERRED BACKGROUND
- Experience designing microcontroller-based reporting and control for power electronics.
- Experience with agency compliance requirements such as UL, CSA, VDE, and CE.
- Familiarity with established product-development tools, processes, and product life-cycle management.
- Semiconductor capital equipment or another fast-paced, technically demanding market background.

SALARY RANGE
$170,000-$175,000 annually. Final compensation will be based on relevant experience, qualifications, and business considerations.
