The Role
We're looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to own our day-to-day cash accounting and support the monthly close. You'll handle bank activity and reconciliations, support and analyze accounts payable, sales tax and fuel tax filings, credit card and bad-debt accounting, and balance sheet reconciliations, and you'll help with our annual audits. It's a great fit for someone early in their career who wants broad, real-world accounting experience and a clear path to grow.
What You'll Do:
Daily / Weekly
- Record all daily cash activity (receipts, disbursements, wires and transfers) in the general ledger.
- Reconcile all bank accounts daily and resolve discrepancies quickly.
- Review daily bank activity reports and share them with the right team members.
- Process remote (desktop) check deposits and match cleared checks in the ERP.
- Monitor incoming and outgoing wires and confirm they are processed correctly.
- Record weekly payroll funding and related bank entries.
- Support the Accounts Payable team with invoice processing, vendor questions and payment runs as needed.
Monthly / Quarterly
- Complete month-end bank reconciliations and the cash close for all accounts.
- Prepare and file monthly multi-state sales tax returns on time using Avalara.
- Gather fleet mileage and fuel data to support IFTA and Heavy Vehicle Use Tax (HVUT) filings.
- Review, code and allocate company credit card activity and record it in the general ledger.
- Record interest expense on the company's credit facility.
- Record bad debt write-offs and recoveries, and help maintain the quarterly bad debt reserve.
- Prepare and analyze monthly balance sheet account reconciliations.
- Analyze accounts payable activity, including AP aging, vendor statement reconciliations, duplicate payments and unusual items, and flag issues to the Controller.
Other
- Support annual financial audits and other reviews throughout the year by pulling schedules and documentation.
- Take on special projects and ad hoc analysis as the team needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- 1–3 years of accounting experience preferred; recent graduates with relevant internship experience are encouraged to apply.
- Solid understanding of debits, credits and account reconciliations.
- Intermediate Excel skills, including VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP and pivot tables.
- Experience with an ERP or accounting system; experience in a dealership or equipment business is a plus.
- Familiarity with Avalara (or similar sales tax software) is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail, organization and time management, including the ability to manage recurring deadlines.
- Clear written and verbal communication, and comfort working with people across the company.
Why JESCO
- Broad exposure to cash, tax, close and audit work, not just one narrow task.
- A small team where you work directly with the Controller and finance leadership.
- Room to grow your skills and responsibilities as the company grows.
