SALARY: The hourly rate for this position is $25.00


The Union Vicinage is seeking a well-organized, detail-oriented individual with excellent interpersonal and communication skills to support a Superior Court Judge. Strong computer skills are necessary for information processing using Judiciary computer systems, including scanning and uploading documents.

Example of Duties

This position is limited to a maximum of 944 hours in a fiscal year.

Duties will include, but are not limited to:
  • Conforming Judge's orders and decisions
  • Maintaining the workflow in and out of judicial chambers typed material for accuracy and correct punctuation, spelling and grammar
  • Communicating the judge's schedule with division administration and case management personnel
  • Preparing and submitting local and state reports
  • Managing incoming and outgoing communications, including mail, telephone, case conference calls and follow-up of same
  • Procuring supplies, equipment, and inventory for chambers, formatting and type charges, judicial opinions and other legal documents
  • Routine correspondence such as form letters or standard replies to inquires
  • Non-routine correspondence and any additional duties as required and assigned
  • Regular and predictable physical presence at the worksite is an essential function of this position.

Qualifications

Three (3) years of experience in an office environment performing a variety of clerical and support services to include keyboarding and one or more of the following: preparing and analyzing legal documents, processing legal or other documents, transcribing information, and scheduling meetings or appointments.

Substitution:
Successful completion of a clerical training program with a minimum of 700 classroom training hours or 30semester hour credits in secretarial science may be substituted for one (1) year of experience indicated above. Coursework must include typing skills, methods, and procedures; other courses may include, but are not limited to, office procedures, word processing, and business English.

Testing:
Applicants selected to interview must pass an appointing authority administered examination to demonstrate typing skills of at least 40 words per minute or possess proof of having taken the required skills test (for example, the New Jersey Civil Service Commission or New Jersey Judiciary typing proficiency certificate).

Note: Knowledge of legal terminology and working knowledge of Microsoft Office is helpful.

Supplemental Information

Driver's License: Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of avehicle is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.

Authorization to Work: US citizenship is not required. Selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US according to Department of Homeland Security, US Citizenship and Immigration Services regulations.

Residency LawIn accordance with N.J.S.A. 52:14-7 (L. 2011, Chapter 70), the "New Jersey First Act," all persons newly hired by the Judiciary within one year must establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. Any person may request an exemption from that requirement from the Employee Residency Review Committee in the Department of Labor & Workforce Development on the basis of either hardship or employer critical need.
