Job Summary
The Property Accountant is responsible for satisfying all aspects of accounting within a specific portfolio of properties. This position reports to the Property Controller and works directly with Regional and Property Management to analyze property results and performance.
Essential Job Functions
- Models and instills company mission and values
- Monthly closing of financial ledgers
- Completes timely bank reconciliations
- Reviews and analyzes ledger accounts
- Reviews budgets and plans forecasting
- Submits quarterly reporting to State Agencies
- Completes financial reporting package
- Addresses and resolves audit requests
- Responds to inquiries from regional and property managers
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Minimum of 5 years of property accounting experience
- USDA rural development accounting experience preferred
- Working knowledge of Yardi or other property accounting software
- Understanding of state agency reporting
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Understanding of tenant rent activities, including collections
- Strong financial acumen and critical thinking skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to interpret data and recommend performance-enhancing actions
- Knowledge of capital expenditures and qualifications for reserve accounts
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced, action-oriented environment
- Ability to establish relationships across the organization and at various hierarchical levels
