About the role
The Distribution Assistant Operations Manager supports the day-to-day execution of distribution center operations, ensuring products and materials are received, stored, picked, staged, and distributed safely, accurately, and efficiently.
This role serves as a key operational leader on the floor and partners closely with the Operations Manager and site leadership to drive team performance, productivity, safety, quality, and service expectations. The Distribution Assistant Operations Manager provides direct leadership to frontline teams, helps coordinate daily labor and workload, addresses operational barriers in real time, and ensures established processes and standards are consistently followed.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on people leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is comfortable making decisions in real time, and can balance team leadership with strong operational execution.
This role operates within a high-volume warehouse and distribution facility where teams work around moving equipment, dock operations, and fast-paced logistics workflows. Strict adherence to safety standards and operational procedures is required.
Responsibilities
Distribution Operations
Support daily distribution operations, including receiving, put-away, replenishment, picking, staging, loading, and outbound execution
Ensure products and materials move through the facility safely, accurately, and efficiently
Coordinate daily operational priorities based on volume, staffing, transportation schedules, and business needs
Monitor workflow throughout the shift and make real-time adjustments to labor and priorities to support service expectations
Partner with Inventory Control and Planning teams to address shortages, discrepancies, product availability, and inventory-related issues
Ensure outbound orders are accurately picked, staged, and prepared to meet established delivery schedules
Identify operational barriers and escalate or resolve issues that could impact production, transportation, or customer service
Support opening, closing, shift-transition, and daily operational routines
Labor & Workforce Management
Support daily labor planning based on anticipated volume and operational requirements
Review staffing levels and adjust team assignments throughout the shift based on changing business needs
Monitor attendance and ensure appropriate coverage across critical operational functions
Partner with leadership to manage overtime, voluntary time off, additional staffing needs, and other labor adjustments
Ensure employee schedules and timekeeping information are accurate and operationally aligned
Identify staffing or capability gaps and communicate recommendations to site leadership
Safety, Quality & Compliance
Maintain a strong safety presence throughout the distribution center and reinforce established safety procedures
Ensure team members follow required food safety, sanitation, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and workplace safety standards
Conduct routine floor walks and identify unsafe conditions, operational risks, or process gaps
Address safety concerns immediately and escalate incidents according to established procedures
Support incident investigations, corrective actions, and safety training as needed
Ensure equipment, workspaces, docks, staging areas, and storage locations are maintained in accordance with established standards
Reinforce expectations related to PPE, equipment operation, product handling, and facility procedures
Operational Performance
Monitor daily operational performance against established productivity, accuracy, quality, and service expectations
Track key metrics and communicate performance results to the team and site leadership
Identify performance gaps and support corrective-action plans
Assist with root-cause analysis for missed deliveries, inventory discrepancies, productivity concerns, damaged product, or other operational issues
Maintain accurate operational documentation and shift handoffs
Support continuous-improvement initiatives designed to improve safety, productivity, accuracy, and team effectiveness
Cross-Functional Partnership
Partner closely with Operations, Inventory Control, Planning, Transportation, Production, Food Safety, Safety, Human Resources, and other support functions
Coordinate with Transportation teams to ensure orders are staged and available according to departure and delivery schedules
Communicate operational risks, staffing concerns, delays, or service disruptions to appropriate stakeholders
Participate in daily and weekly operational meetings and provide updates on performance, staffing, safety, and business priorities
Support site-wide initiatives and operational projects as assigned
Qualifications
At least two years of lead, supervisor, assistant manager, or related leadership experience in distribution, warehouse operations, fulfillment, or a similar environment
Experience leading frontline teams in a fast-paced operation
Strong understanding of warehouse and distribution workflows
Ability to manage multiple operational priorities and make effective decisions in real time
Familiarity with food safety requirements and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) preferred
Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and workforce-management tools preferred
Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated ability to coach employees and hold teams accountable to established standards
Ability to analyze basic operational metrics and identify performance trends.
Experience using warehouse, inventory, scheduling, timekeeping, or similar operational systems
Bilingual preferred
Requirements
18 years old and legally authorized to work in the US
Able to lift, pull, and push 50 pounds of weight by oneself
Able to stand for extended periods
Able to move around the warehouse floor and interact with various teams daily
Ability to read and comprehend safety policies and operational manuals in English; ability to communicate effectively with team members and follow verbal instructions to ensure a safe and productive work environment
Ability to work flexible schedules, including mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays
Ability to work in varying temperature zones including cold environments for extended periods
