OpenDor Media is searching for a Director of Events to own a growing calendar of live shows and donor events, from the first request to the final debrief, and turn each one into an experience worth showing up for. You will be the front door for every event request, work with our Chief Marketing Officer to set priorities and assign ownership, and run the room on site when it counts. Your work shapes how people experience OpenDor Media in person, and the events you deliver show people who we are and why our work matters.
OpenDor Media is a leading global non-profit media company for the 21st century. We educate, entertain, and engage our audiences by bringing to life big ideas and authentic stories, and by celebrating all things Jewish.
This role is an exempt, fully remote position that includes travel to events 1-2 times per month.
What you'll own
- Flagship live shows: Be the person who makes each show happen: set the budget, secure approvals, book the venue and production team, and lead on site, working with Content and Development on the stage conversation, VIP reception and guest list.
- Donor events: Plan and deliver parlor events and donor gatherings in Los Angeles, New York, Miami and other cities, giving our Development team the right setting to deepen relationships with supporters.
- The events pipeline: Be the front door for every event request, recommending priorities to the Chief Marketing Officer so each event gets the right owner, investment and lead time, and keep one OpenDor Media events calendar.
- Support across the organization: Serve as Marketing's events liaison, bringing logistics and a consistent standard to speaking engagements, live episodes, tours and conferences led by division heads.
- Budgets and suppliers: Run the events budget, negotiate supplier contracts, and build the templates, checklists and trusted network of venues, caterers and AV partners that make each event easier than the last.
- Results and learning: Measure every event against its targets, from the right audience in the room to money raised within 90 days, and carry the lessons into the next plan.
What we're looking for
- Strategic about where we show up: You think about audience, cost and payoff before logistics, and you help leadership put resources behind the events that matter most.
- A clear decision maker: You can look at a request and quickly shape the right plan for it, including the format, scale, owner and resources, and explain your thinking in a way people get behind.
- An owner from start to finish: You take an event from the first brief to the final debrief, handling the venue, suppliers, run of show and day-of details yourself so nothing falls through the cracks.
- Calm in the room: When the AV fails or a speaker runs late, you are the steady voice running the show, and the guests never notice.
- Able to balance multiple priorities: You build the timeline, track every moving piece across teams and suppliers, and hold stakeholders to their dates without spending the goodwill that gets the next event done.
Requirements
- You have 6+ years in live events, experiential marketing, agency production, nonprofit galas or live entertainment.
- You have run donor, VIP or high-net-worth events for 150 to 1,000 guests, end to end.
- You manage budgets and suppliers with confidence, including negotiating contracts.
- You keep complex, multi-stakeholder projects on schedule.
- You are based in the US, can travel one to two times a month, can work evenings and some weekends around events, and keep regular overlap with UK and Israel hours.
- You know AI and embrace it. You use AI tools to make your own work faster and cleaner, you have hands-on experience with Claude specifically.
- You write and speak fluent English and work comfortably in Google Workspace and Slack.
- You are committed to OpenDor Media's mission and values.
These are not required, but they help:
- Experience in a Jewish nonprofit or community organization or familiarity with Jewish and Israeli audiences
