Job Summary
The Sales Engineer will support customers and grow sales opportunities. This role combines technical application knowledge with consultative selling: understanding customer requirements, developing suitable equipment solutions, preparing proposals, and guiding opportunities from initial inquiry through handoff to execution. The Sales Engineer will work closely with customers, engineering, operations, and the broader Komline sales team to maintain strong relationships and support a smooth transition of the acquired business.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Build and maintain relationships with existing customers, prospective customers, engineering firms, representatives, and other channel partners as applicable to the assigned business.
- Identify customer needs through discovery calls, site visits, review of specifications, and discussion of process and operating requirements.
- Assess applications and collaborate with engineering and product specialists to recommend technically appropriate equipment and solutions.
- Prepare technical and commercial proposals, including equipment scope, preliminary selections, pricing inputs, exceptions, and supporting documentation.
- Review requests for quotation, drawings, and bid specifications; coordinate responses to technical questions and clarify scope before order acceptance.
- Present solution capabilities and value to customer technical, operations, and purchasing stakeholders; support negotiations with sales leadership.
- Coordinate with internal teams on lead times, manufacturability, service needs, and proposal commitments, and provide an accurate handoff when orders are awarded.
- Maintain opportunity, account, forecast, and customer interaction records in the designated CRM or sales systems.
- Support the integration of acquired customer relationships, product information, and sales processes into Komline practices while maintaining continuity of service.
- Attend customer meetings, site visits, trade shows, and industry events as needed; travel as required for assigned accounts and opportunities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent experience in technical equipment sales and applications.
- At least seven years of experience in technical sales, applications engineering, or proposal development for industrial or water and wastewater equipment.
- Ability to interpret technical specifications, drawings, and process requirements and translate them into a clear equipment scope and proposal.
- Strong customer communication, presentation, negotiation, and follow-through skills.
- Ability to manage multiple sales opportunities and work effectively with engineering, operations, service, and commercial teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience using a CRM or comparable sales tracking system.
- Ability to travel to customer and company sites as business needs require.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience selling engineered or configured equipment through a longer sales cycle to municipal or industrial customers.
- Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, fluid handling, or other relevant process equipment.
- Experience working with consulting engineers, equipment representatives, integrators, or public bid processes.
- Experience supporting a product line or customer transition following an acquisition.
